Berlin Art Office (BAO) is an international art office based in Berlin and Beijing, working across contemporary art projects, artist collaborations, advisory services and cultural exchange.
BAO connects artists, institutions, collectors, students and cultural professionals across Europe and Asia. Its activities range from exhibition development and international project coordination to artist residencies, study programmes, studio visits and the presentation of selected artworks.
Combining curatorial expertise, cultural production experience and international networks, BAO develops thoughtful and professionally organised projects while remaining open to different forms of artistic and commercial collaboration.
BAO works through direct relationships with artists, institutions and cultural communities. Rather than following a single institutional model, BAO operates flexibly across exhibitions, artistic production, international exchange, education and collecting. Each project is developed according to its particular context, participants and objectives.
BAO values long-term relationships, informed artistic judgement and encounters that allow people to engage with contemporary art beyond conventional exhibition or market formats.
Based between Berlin and Beijing, BAO operates within two distinctive and interconnected cultural environments. Berlin offers an international art scene shaped by experimentation, independent initiatives, artist communities and institutional diversity. Beijing remains one of Asia's most significant centres for contemporary art, artistic production and cultural debate.
This dual presence enables BAO to develop projects and relationships across different artistic, institutional and social contexts.
Guo Xiaohui is a curator and researcher working across contemporary art, ecology, technology and international cultural exchange. Her practice combines curatorial research, exhibition development and institutional collaboration. She has worked with artists, museums and cultural organisations in China and Europe, developing projects that examine changing relationships between human life, environments, technologies and cultural histories.
Recent projects include Only Tree Knows at Shanghai Natural History Museum and Codes & Canopies: Art Beyond the Algorithmic Age at MoCA Suzhou, developed in collaboration with ZKM. At BAO, she leads artistic direction, curatorial development, artist relations and international institutional partnerships.
Yitao Wang is a director, cultural producer and co-founder of Berlin Art Office. His practice bridges contemporary art, moving image, cultural production and international collaboration. He studied performance at the Beijing Film Academy before completing two master's degrees in the United Kingdom: Film & Television Studies at the University of Westminster and Ethnographic Documentary at University College London.
His work spans documentary filmmaking, video installation and cultural production. He directed a documentary portrait of performance artist He Yunchang, contributed to the 2017 Shanghai Urban Space Art Season, and presented Matrix, a video installation at Milan Design Week. In 2017, Wang founded an independent production studio in Beijing. He co-founded Berlin Art Office in 2020 and currently oversees Berlin-based operations, project coordination, production and programme delivery.
BAO works with an international network of artists, curators, producers, researchers, designers, galleries, museums, universities and cultural organisations. This collaborative structure allows BAO to assemble project teams according to the specific artistic and practical needs of each initiative.
